Musselburgh - A very hardy and exceptionally fine strain . Hardy, heavy cropping and delicious. A traditional ingredient in soups and stews or as a boiled vegetable, but also try thinly sliced in stir-fries. High in potassium, folic acid and vitamin A and C. Musselburgh is a proven performer and still takes some beating as a winter leek. With their compact, bolt upright growth, leeks are the ideal crop to squeeze into bare patches on an allotment or in a border.

How to grow leeks Leeks prefer ordinary well drained soil in sun or semi-shade. Sow seeds in early spring outdoors in a well prepared seed bed or inside in containers. Sow thinly 1cm deep in drills 23cm apart. Transplant the seedlings in early summer carefully and plant 15x40 cm apart, Earth up the stems as growth develops. Harvest from Autumn - spring
